Prophet Yusuf:
The Prophet of Dreams

Yusuf (circa 1610 BC - 1500 BC?, (Arabic: يوسف‎, also Yussuf, Yusef, Youssef, Jusuf, Yousuf, Yousef, Yussef, Yossef, Yousov, Yusif, Yousif, Yosef or Yousaf), is a prophet. He corresponds to the character from the Jewish texts and the Christian Bible as Joseph and is the Arabic variant of that name. It is one of the common names in the Middle East and among Muslim nations.

Although the narratives of other prophets are mentioned in various surahs, the complete narrative of Joseph is given only in one surah, Yusef (sura). However, it is said to be the most detailed narrative in Quran and bears more details than the Biblical counterpart (although the Biblical account greatly pre-dates the Quranic one).

SUMMARY

Yusuf was one of the twelve sons of Ya'qub.  His mother's name was Raheel.  He had a younger sister and a brother named Benyamin (Benjamin) from the same mother.  Yusuf was exceptionally handsome and was very dear to his parents.

At a young age he had an exceptional dream, and throughout his life he had a gift for interpreting dreams.

His borthers who were jealous of him abandoned him and told their father he was dead. Yusuf managed to survive and eventually came to be very powerful.

There are lots of lessons to be learned from Prophet Yusuf.
