Death
Deeds a Muslim Should Complete before Death

The Five Pillars

There are certain things a muslim should do before death, to gain as much blessings (sawab) as possible. These mandatory practices form the basis of the Five Pillars:

  1. Declaration of faith (Shahadah):
To state 'La illaha il Allah, wa Muhammadan rasool Allah', which means 'There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah'.
  2. Prayers (Salah):
To pray all the five obligatory prayers daily, just the compulsory (fard) ones, there is obviously a greater reward to pray the optional Sunnah prayers as well.
  3. Fasting in Ramadan (Sawm):
To keep all the fasts every Ramadan, and to make up later for ones that you've missed.
  4. Zakah (Pay charity):
From your earnings, pay 2.5% at least to the poor and needy.
  5. Hajj (The Pilgrimage):
To at least once in your lifetime make the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.
