Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him stressed the importance of believing in one God, since Allah's revelations came to him at a time when idol worship in multiple gods was commonplace, and the Kaaba was actually used as a shrine to store these gods statues. Allah's main responsibility given to Prophet Muhammad was to let people know that there was just one God.
